We’re coming to the finish line! Our Capstone Fair is on Tuesday the 14th of April, 2 weeks from tomorrow. Setup is from 9:45-10:15, and then the library is open to the public from 10:15-1:30, with a break for lunch from 11:30-12. While the fair is running, your presentation will be assessed, and other students will be coming into the library to check out the projects.
Here’s a final checklist for grade 12’s in the course:
Thanks,

Here’s a final checklist for grade 12’s in the course:
- Prepare your display. If you’d like a trifold display to share your visuals, you’re welcome to borrow one from the school, and you can drop by room 229 to pick one up from me. You’ll be required to return it in good condition after your presentation is complete. If you’d like to keep your presentation, please do not take a school trifold to use. There’s a sample visual display in room 229 if you’d like to see one. You do not need to use a trifold, but you will need visuals or a demonstration of some kind.
- If you have any special requests for your presentation, please let me know. Otherwise, you’ll be supplied with a space to set up on the morning of the 14th.
- Use the graphic organizer (posted on our website http://msjennygeorge.weebly.com/) to prepare your presentation. Also look at the rubric so you’re familiar with how you’ll be assessed.
- Practice your presentation. Figure out what you’re going to say and run through it fully. You are welcome to use cue cards if you like. It shouldn’t be more than 5-10 minutes.
- Make sure your journal is complete and BRING IT WITH YOU to your presentation.
- Invite your mentor and those close to you to check out the projects.
- Think about a way to thank your mentor for their help.
- Ask for help if you have questions. I am available by appointment for Capstone Project assistance. If you’d like to connect with me to make an appointment, please reach out by email to [email protected], or drop by the learning centre room by Kenji or room 229 across from the library.
Thanks,
Ms. George
SECOND SEMESTER UPDATE:
I hope you are all well and enjoying a great start to second semester. At this point in the Careers 12 course, students have completed independent assignments 1–10 and are now working on their Capstone Projects. There are a few students who have not yet completed these assignments, and I encourage them to see me as soon as possible so we can make a plan for completion.
I have met with students to discuss their projects and have approved their topics and plans. If any significant changes are being considered, I ask that students come and discuss their ideas with me before proceeding.
A handful of students are still working on completing their 30 hours of work or volunteer experience. If any students are unsure how to meet this course requirement, please see me and I will be happy to help.
Students are currently completing their Capstone Projects, writing in their journals, and preparing for their presentations on April 14. I will be holding a meeting for students next Thursday, January 29, at 10:10 a.m. in the library. During this meeting, I will provide details about presentation day, answer questions, and distribute hard copies of a graphic organizer to help students stay on track when preparing their presentation.
Parents and guardians: please check in with your student to ensure they are on track with their Capstone Project and journal. If students feel stuck or need support, they are welcome to email me or meet with me in person. Although there are no additional scheduled meetings, I am always happy to help.
